Minshuku Magusa

My daughter is a bit picky, but she happily tried lots of dishes and said they were all delicious. The food was so good that even the adults had a hard time deciding what to eat, haha. The portions were unfortunately too big for us to finish, and we really regretted leaving any behind. The hostess and owner were both thoughtful and kind, and we had a relaxing stay at this wonderful guesthouse. It was soothing for both body and mind. Thank you for looking after us.

We stayed two nights, from Wednesday after Golden Week. The cheerful landlady and kind, sincere owner made us feel so at home, almost like we had another hometown. This time was so lovely that we’ll probably return in early summer, though I imagine other seasons would be nice too. Our room was upstairs with an ocean view. Before dinner we could order beer, and the setting really felt like a secluded fishing town: eaves along the slope, wild birds like black kites and Japanese bush warblers, and the sound of the waves. Follow the inn sign from the main road, then look for the entrance sign across from Watanabe Fisheries. The inn is halfway up the slope, with parking at the bottom. We came on a 1,000cc motorcycle, and they let us park near the entrance. Dinner is served in a private room on the first floor. There was a generous amount of seasonal local food: extra sashimi, light tempura, simmered dishes, small plates, a hot pot, and dessert. It’s a lot, so I’d skip lunch if you can. They have an alcohol menu, and I especially recommend the sake. There’s local brewery sake in several styles, from rounded flavors that go with the food to richer, satisfying ones, plus the inn’s own products. The owner knows a lot about sake and can guide you if you want to learn more. When we came back after eating, our futons had been laid out. The polished stainless steel tub was lovely to use. Breakfast was filling too, with outstanding grilled fish, horse mackerel filleted that day, lots of small dishes, tasty rice with grains, and miso soup full of shellfish.

We stayed as a family on September 28th, and the landlady’s cheerful manner made it a very pleasant visit. We have children aged 2 and 7. Even though we asked for no meal for our picky 7-year-old, they still prepared a proper children’s meal, which touched us. Our room was upstairs and the dining area was downstairs. They laid out fluffy futons while we ate, which we really appreciated. Dinner was generous, with a boat-shaped sashimi platter and boiled fish, and everything tasted great. The dried fish at breakfast was delicious too. We’d definitely like to come back.

I came to Chiba for a swim and stayed here. The landlady was kind, the room was clean, and the food was delicious. The sake alongside the fresh sashimi was especially amazing.
