The location is good, and the front desk staff were courteous and helpful. They were patient with my my broken Japanese, which I appreciated. The baths were spacious and had plenty of variety, but I wish they’d been cleaner. There were musty, unpleasant smells around the building, including in the baths, and the place felt a bit run down. In my bathroom, the towel rack was literally held up with tape.

It’s a quiet town, and the hotel seemed to be almost entirely locals. The location worked really well, close to Honkawagoe station and spots like Kawagoe Castle, Sakura river, pachinko, book off, and places to eat. I paid only $81sgd for one night at the peak of cherry blossom season, with breakfast and a free evening Edo period performance included. The public bathhouse was dated, but spacious, clean, and lovely, with lots of different baths. Staff were very friendly, too. Such good value, and I’d recommend it!

The public bath, or ofuro, was nice, though some parts looked quite dated. Our room felt old as well, and the furniture had seen better days. It was really tiny for two people, and communicating in English at the front desk wasn’t easy.
