Kikuchi Onsen Sasanoya

The food had a great variety, and I was very satisfied. The hot spring water is amazing too, slightly slimy and leaving my skin feeling smooth. I’d like to go back if I get the chance.

I was happy with the food, and the hot spring water in the large bath was superb. It left my skin feeling wonderfully smooth.

This place isn’t new or fancy, but it’s clearly kept clean. The paintings around the hotel are lovely and lift your mood. The staff are what really stand out!!! They’re always smiling, greeting you kindly, and paying attention to what you need. They’ve been in customer service a long time, and you can tell they understand what service should feel like. This is real customer care! I’ll keep some details to myself, since future guests might wonder why something was possible for someone else and not them. But I think the staff have kept up a rare kind of customer-first service. I do wonder if they’re working too hard and getting enough rest, and whether enough young people will carry the hotel’s spirit forward once they retire. The service felt like 120%, and I was always comfortable. If you want the warmth of people that you don’t get at a spotless, perfect luxury hotel, this is the place.

I stopped in for a bath. There’s an indoor bath and a large open-air bath, both really relaxing. They’re open on weekdays, and Fridays are okay too. Admission is 600 yen as of October 2024. Hours are 3 PM to 7 PM. The lockers cost 100 yen, refundable, and parking is free. If you’re in Kikuchi, definitely stop by. Highly recommended!
