There’s a glamping area too. The traditional Japanese style feels authentic, and the views are beautiful. Families will find good play areas for kids. Just keep in mind there’s no elevator and you need to book breakfast ahead. Autumn and spring seem like especially good times to visit.

The spring water comes from about 2,000 meters underground. It’s reddish brown, almost like red wine or chocolate when you hold it to the light, and feels silky because it contains organic matter from ancient plants. Alongside the large baths for men and women, private open-air and semi-open-air baths were due to be completed in 2022. The private baths look out over Lake Kameyama, and the inn also offers retreats that bring together nature activities, glamping, and hot springs.

We had a lovely time at the fireworks festival, and before taking the bus back to Tokyo we rented bikes to explore the area. The inn and rooms are quite old, but the staff were so welcoming, the lakeside location was convenient, and we enjoyed the Japanese breakfast. We also really liked the private onsen, which was just the right temperature.

It takes around 90 minutes to get here from Tokyo. The views of Kameyama lake are lovely, and it’s a nice place to bring kids and use the private rooms.

The terrace view made it easy to stay in and relax, and breakfast was generous and delicious. My room was spacious and had a welcome sweet. The onsen was great too. I came from the UAE for one night on October 1st, hoping to spend a weekend surrounded by nature, and Kamayama Onsen Lake was exactly the relaxing spot I wanted. From check-in through check-out, the staff and owner were warm and kind. I’m already looking forward to coming back again. Thank you so much.
