Hotel C Kokura Bay

My room tablet was completely unusable, and the shower in the bath had weak water pressure. The glass door to the balcony beside the bed had broken, misaligned locks on both sides, leaving gaps that let cold air in all night. I was in room 602 on the top floor. The location was great, but the price was high, which made all this a shame. They said a staff shortage meant none of the menu items were available. The receptionist also looked sleepy, with messy hair, as if she’d been up all night.

The rooms are nice, though this Kita Ward love hotel is on the expensive side. Coupons seem to get you a discount. What put me off was the elevator. Its doors close far too soon after you press the open button, and the mechanism seems faulty. My companion got caught in them, with a loud bang. I won’t return.

I’d happily stay overnight here again. The second-cheapest room was clean and, at 33 square meters, surprisingly spacious for a lower-grade category. The window view was nice too. For two people, just over 10,000 yen for the night using an official website coupon felt like pretty good value, and weekdays may be cheaper still. Short stays seemed pricey, but I was a little surprised the overnight rate wasn’t as high as I’d expected. Maybe that’s how it is everywhere. One possible concern: you have to get a key card from the front desk whether you’re staying briefly or overnight. I’d recommend it for a night, though it feels a bit expensive for a short stay.
