JR Kyushu Station Hotel Kokura

Making hand-drip coffee in the lounge and trying the Mojito beer was such a fun part of the stay. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the location made getting around easy. We had a great time here.

I slept really well during our two nights here. The rooms were quiet, with hardly any corridor noise or slamming doors, though you might hear wedding music and applause from the courtyard if there’s an event. Housekeeping was impeccable, and the room had plenty of space for two medium-sized suitcases. The hotel is right above Kokura Station, which is very convenient.

The renovated rooms were so comfortable, and the amenities were great. I could easily have stayed two or three nights, though there’s no laundry facility, which may not matter much to guests staying just one night. Breakfast was top notch, with Kyushu specialties and excellent coffee. The location is hard to beat: the elevator goes straight down to the Shinkansen tracks, and the Kitakyushu Airport bus is just a minute away.

The location was very good, but the hotel felt old and eerie. We stayed two nights as a stopover and were first put in a room at the far end of a dim hallway. It was an unpleasant walk from the lift. Inside, the bathroom hinge was visibly covered in dust, and I suspected the room hadn’t been used in a long time. It smelled musty and felt dirty, old, and uncomfortable. Thankfully, they moved us to a cleaner room on a brighter floor. There was also a strong smell of smoke around reception.
