You can walk to plenty of good bars in about a minute, since the place is right in the middle of Kobayashi cities night life area. That location is a big plus. The building itself isn't fancy, but it's clean and incredibly cheap. With dinner and breakfast included, it's an amazing deal, and I'd definitely stay again. Just don't expect a place suited to picky guests or anyone without a sense of adventure.
It's a shared house, with locked private rooms, so how comfortable it feels probably depends on the other guests. Seems like a good option if you're traveling alone. The place is right in the city center. My room was clean and the sheets were fresh. The bathroom and toilet weren't part of my rating, since I only stayed after drinking to kill some time.^^; I wasn't sure how to rate the service on a room-only stay. They explained the key and the room, including Kobayashi's strict garbage sorting rules. They said that if I still couldn't figure it out, I could just leave the rubbish there, which was enough to earn them a high rating from me.^^; I'd seen different reviews, so I wondered if management had changed. If so, my experience was good.
The room was roomy, clean, and comfortable, and the lady there was nice. The dog was noisy, and the bathroom was laughably tiny. Dinner came as a boxed lunch. Since I'd paid in advance, I could check out whenever I wanted. It felt so free that I could grab my lunch and leave without even staying the night. Still, it was so cheap I could forgive all of that, lol. If you want attentive service, pay the going rate and stay at a hotel!
I found the reviews questionable, and the place itself was old and dirty with poor facilities. There wasn't even one tatami mat per person, or enough futons for everyone, yet the rate was the usual price. With the mite spray there, I started worrying about the bedding quality. I would never stay again. Room only was 5,000 yen for adults and 3,000 yen for children, plus a 500 yen parking fee. If you're driving, the nearby AZ is cheaper and safer.
I had to stay here for the first time because the business hotel across the street was full, and it was a complete disaster. It was the worst place I've ever stayed. I always stay at this guesthouse, but I would never come back, even if asked. I'm not expecting high-end service for the price, but basic safety and security are essential. There's only one tiny bath with a shower, meant for one person, and a washlet toilet, and they're unisex. The wait for a bath can be hours, and mornings are hell for the toilet. I can't understand allowing large groups into a place with so little. I was bitten by a tick, too. The host should be thinking about guests, not just making money. The inside of a very old wooden house has been renovated for lodging, but the house is well past a typical home's useful life. There's no emergency exit on the second floor, so getting out in a fire would be impossible. It isn't earthquake-resistant, and I think it would collapse in a major quake. The walk from the parking lot is awkward as well. It's about a meter wide, unpaved and uneven, with steps and no lighting. I sprained my ankle there. Even with deregulation, I think it's a problem that an old, abandoned house with no earthquake-resistant construction can be run as a guesthouse. It seems clear the host is trying to make easy money from an old building. P.S. I read on a certain website that the host removes all pesticides from vegetables, meat, and fish before serving them. What I saw was ingredients bought from the supermarket. Do they think no one will find out because customers don't test for pesticide residues? You can't completely remove pesticides if they're used while crops are grown. Please stop making false claims. Apparently the host runs a beauty salon and is good at customer service, so at first he seems nice. But the false advertising and disregard for guests' safety made it seem like he was just trying to earn money from an easy part-time guesthouse. It reminded me that you can't judge a book by its cover. I don't usually comment, and this is my first harsh review, but it was so bad that I decided to post it.
