The Crown Palais Kochi

The parking was convenient, and the attendant was really kind and helpful. Our room was quiet and peaceful, though it had no view at all. It was also very comfortable and large for a Japanese hotel. The place does feel old, like it would have been the height of luxury in the 1990s. Breakfast was awesome, and I'd definitely recommend adding it to your stay.

The rooms feel quite old and need renovation. Service was nice and breakfast was good, but overpriced. For 2,400 yen, you could find better options.

The breakfast buffet and set meal were both wonderful. My room, though, was very warm because the air conditioner barely worked. I also found mold and dirty sheets, so I had to switch rooms.

The location and breakfast were the only real bright spots. The hotel is close to Kochi castle, in the middle of the city, and about a five-minute walk from Hirome market. Breakfast was filling when served as a course, and the buffet had a decent selection. The room problems started as soon as we checked in. One clerk glared at me through the process, and in our first room we found a large comforter stain, what looked like mold or another dark stain beside it, and mold on a lamp. When we complained, a clerk chuckled. We were moved to a larger room without mold, but the air conditioner there either didn't work or was useless. Even on high, it was unbearably hot. Parking costs Y1000 per night, which seems steep for this hotel. A valet was also curt and inappropriate when yelling at our driver. The place looks fancy at first, but it really isn't. Breakfast and parking are pros, but the staff were rude, the rooms dirty, the air conditioning poor, and parking costs extra. If you're not driving and mainly want to be near the castle, you could consider it. Otherwise, literally stay anywhere else and don't waste your money.
