The house itself was nice, but the stay was stressful and the service left a lot to be desired. We chose Soushuku, where sound carries between rooms because there isn't a full wall between the bedrooms. I wish that had been made clearer in the listing. The lock was the biggest problem. The automatic mechanism seemed low on battery and only moved partway, so the door actually locked perhaps half the time. We called several times, but it was never fixed. We didn't feel comfortable leaving without a locked door, even though Japan felt safe, and would have preferred a physical key. When we reported problems, especially the lock, the person on the phone made it seem like our fault and wasn't apologetic. There were other issues when we arrived: the bathroom bulb was out, the kettle was broken, and the lock wasn't working properly. Someone came by, but the lock trouble continued. A week before arrival, we'd emailed to add two people. At check-in, nobody could find that exchange, so we waited while staff called around to confirm it. They later brought the extra accommodations. I initially chalked that up to a simple mix-up, but the problems that followed made it harder to overlook. Given all of this and the poor service for what we paid, I wouldn't stay with this group again.

The place was lovely and comfortable, but the service was awful. I hadn't received any information, so I ended up waiting outside the door for 30 minutes. A neighbor kindly helped me get in. The staff member called afterward to apologize, though it didn't feel like he was actually sorry.

The bath looking out onto the little garden was a lovely spot, especially with the evening lights. I also enjoyed relaxing in the Japanese-style room and even had space for some luxurious yoga. We were only two, so the place felt wonderfully roomy and restful. Opening the door, I first saw the familiar machiya-style approach, then a stylish interior that mixed the townhouse's character with a modern feel. I live in Kyoto, but still chose to stay here. The upstairs stairs let you see down through them, which felt a little scary when hurrying up or down. Both bedrooms were comfortable, and I liked that some of the original wood from the townhouse was still there. Cooking was fun with the supplied pots, dishes, and cutlery, and the coffee was delicious. The kitchen looks sleek with its door, though sliding that fairly heavy door back and forth got inconvenient. I'm not used to induction cooking, and the tablet instructions alone weren't enough for me at first. More detail would help. I'd love to try one of the other townhouses next time. Thank you!

We were three female friends, and having an entire building to ourselves was wonderful. The rooms looked just like the photos, and we were delighted to find the air conditioning already running on such a hot day. We shopped at Nishiki Market and cooked different things in the kitchen. It had the utensils we needed, though we brought our own seasonings after being told none were provided. There's a convenience store close by for basic supplies. The front desk near Kyoto Station felt reassuringly clean, almost like a hotel lobby. The staff explained everything carefully, arranged a taxi, and gave us a map that made the hotel easy to explain to the driver. There were also explanations in English, which seemed helpful for foreign visitors. With three of us, they put an extra futon in the Japanese-style room, so everyone could sleep in their own space. The TV had Netflix and other services, and the washer included a dryer. I'd be happy to try another place in the series. A few things could be better: the entrance would feel safer with a second lock, since I wondered if someone could jump over the first one. The TV sat too low and responded poorly. The kitchen and fridge had just one sliding door, which was awkward, and the lighting felt dim. I also couldn't work out how to unlock the induction cooktop, so I couldn't use it for a while. Even with those annoyances, I was very satisfied. Thank you!

There weren't any hangers, so I had to fold my clothes. Some hooks or hangers would have helped. I also made cheese fondue, but with no tabletop stove, I set a chair by the kitchen and ate right from the induction cooktop. For winter hot pot, a tabletop induction unit would be a nice addition to such a luxurious space. The place itself was exciting, and the bathroom had air conditioning. Having a hair dryer and iron made getting ready really comfortable. The kitchen looked stylish, with Balmuda and Cutipol appliances, and I appreciated the house-made drip coffee. They also let me check out a little later, which was a big help in the rain.
