The breakfast setup was such a nice touch: you pick a time and it’s brought over, then you leave the box outside when you’re done. There’s Kyoto tea to make, plus plenty of cups, dishes, and chairs in the kitchen. The house stayed warm even in winter, and the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and little garden were all well equipped and tidy. It’s a two-story traditional house from 1933, once a shop, and the owner turned it into a guesthouse while keeping its original look. Antique cabinets and furniture sit alongside paintings and artwork, which give the rustic rooms a more modern feel. The location is handy too, near Sanjo-kai shopping street, with supermarkets, cafes, flower shops, and fruit shops close by. The subway is about a 10-minute walk away. A thoughtful, convenient place to stay.
