We found the room dirty right when we arrived. There were lots of stains on the carpet, and stray hairs around the sink showed the bathroom hadn't been cleaned well. The room was small, as expected for a budget hotel, but we've stayed at plenty of low-cost places in Japan that still make cleanliness and comfort a priority. This one didn't. The building also seems overdue for the renovation it needed decades ago. Even allowing for its budget category, our stay in Kochi was disappointing. If we come back, we'd gladly pay more for somewhere cleaner.

It's a smoking hotel, but I asked for a non-smoking room. They cleaned it and aired it out. Thanks for that.

The room was small, and it smelled of dogs and smoke. The chair and carpet were dirty and smelled bad, and the hair dryer was really old. There was no Wi-Fi signal in the room. Also, the window has no screen, so opening it didn't feel safe.

The breakfast was pretty good, and the ladies serving it were great. It was just bread and boiled eggs, but it was free, so I can't complain. The room was spacious, though the bathroom was tiny. The beds were so hard I couldn't sleep, and I usually manage fine on a futon, if that gives you an idea. The room faced the hospital, so the ambulance noise was really loud, though it stopped overnight. The fridge was switched on but barely cold. The girl at check-in seemed quite indifferent, which felt unusual in Japan. For a budget stay it wasn't too bad.
