The outdoor bath is huge and beautifully set among trees and greenery, with a little stream running beside it. Big rocks complete the natural scene, and one section has a cover for heavy rain. The water is milky brown and mineral rich, with a high flow from the source, 500 liters per minute, and a temperature around 40°C, great for a long soak. There’s a small circular stone basin with source water for washing, plus a stool and bucket, and another basin with cold water for cooling off. The water is a sodium magnesium calcium bicarbonate spring, pH 6.6, gensen kakenagashi. I used the mixed gender outdoor bath, though there’s also a women-only one. Entry is ¥500 for outdoors or ¥200 indoors. The Kyushu onsen stamp is at reception, shampoo is provided, and you need your own towel. It’s open 07:30 - 23:00 and has parking. Lockers cost ¥100. The changing room is a small wooden house with bamboo baskets for belongings. After bathing, there’s a nice place to relax by reception. With the high mineral concentration, expect to sweat a lot afterward. Everything was clean and in excellent condition, with a very relaxed atmosphere. A hidden gem in Kyushu, well worth a visit if you’re nearby.
The owner was so friendly and welcoming to foreigners. The outdoor onsen is wonderful, and the food was okay for the price. I highly recommend it.
Amazing natural onsen, with golden colored water, which is very rare for a natural spring.
A beautiful setting for a great, huge outdoor bath.
On the way back from the Kokonoe "Yume" Suspension Bridge, I stopped at the hot spring and had a great time in the open-air bath. There were other visitors, but I chose the mixed bath, where I saw just one other person in the early evening. The water is a strong gold color, similar to Aomori's Furofushi Onsen, though I don’t know whether the spring quality is similar. Once you’re in, the color makes you hard to see. You can see the bath on the way to the changing room, and from the bath you can see the path, so you can check whether it’s a good time to go in or leave. The women’s-only outdoor bath is a little smaller, and it was just as visible on the way. The atmosphere reminded me of Tsuru no Yu in Nyuto Onsen, as others have mentioned. The bath is large and open, with the scenery blending into nature in a really relaxing way. The water feels gentle on the body. It isn’t too hot and doesn’t make you sweat, but it keeps you warm and cozy for a long time. Showers and rinse baths are conveniently placed, with shampoo and body soap provided. The old-fashioned building was quiet and clean inside, with a nice balance of simplicity and traditional inn atmosphere. I was surprised by the reasonable prices, long bathing hours for visitors, and charming feel. 100 points!
