The setting in the beautiful village of Koyasan is incredible. We stayed one night during our holiday, and it was a very traditional experience. Sleeping on futons may feel uncomfortable, so it might not suit everyone. If that works for you, it’s a great experience for the price.

The room was clean and spacious, and the bath was relaxing, though it could use more attention to detail. The food was decent but didn’t really stand out. This was my second time in Koyasan, and I was glad to stay with my family this visit. For a three-star Shukubo I didn’t expect luxury, but I wish the monks spent more time engaging with guests. A little more personal interaction would have helped us feel truly welcome.
