Yu No Mori Hotel Shidotaira

Snow kept falling while we were in the onsen, making the view feel like a dream. The baths were wonderful, though very hot; you can add cold water. Our room was very large, and the views were magical too. The omakase dinner had about eight courses, with a sirloin steak that was incredibly tender and delicious. Breakfast was a tasty traditional Japanese meal. I can’t eat sashimi or raw beef, and they accommodated that. The free shuttle buses to and from the stations made getting around seamless. Everything about the hotel felt well worth it, and the stay exceeded our expectations.

We spent two nights here and had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive, and we liked them all. For our two dinners, the beef and abalone main dishes were both delicious. Thanks, Chefs! There were lots of free drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, available until 10pm, with a dedicated lounge where you could chat and relax. The hotel also had a foot bath, a private onsen in each room, and two public onsens, all with lovely views. We’ll miss them. It was a pleasant and unforgettable experience.

The meals were delicious and exceptionally well prepared, even if the plating wasn’t as extravagant as at some other ryokans I’ve visited. I had one of my best ryokan stays in Japan, with a lovely mix of relaxation and luxury. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with private hot tubs that add to the indulgent feel. The public bathing area is thoughtfully laid out, with beautiful rocks, complimentary drinks, and popsicles. A wonderful stay, and I’d like to come back.

The meals were delicious and thoughtfully put together, and an 11am checkout meant there was no need to rush. I could get up, soak, have breakfast, then perhaps soak once more before leaving. Wonderful. Set at the foot of wooded mountains, the ryokan gives guests a relaxed, luxurious feeling. Check-in was smooth and stylish, handled at a small desk in the entry lobby. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, with private hot tubs in several styles. For the most luxurious feel, I’d pick the rock-style tub. The natural water runs very hot, so check it before getting in and add cold water if needed.
