For a 2-star hotel, this is really good. The staff were kind and helpful. The bed was neat, cleaned every two days, and they gave me a fresh towel and bathrobe daily. There are also extra pillows and toiletries in the lobby.

The staff were helpful and professional, and the included breakfast was decent. The location felt disappointing, in a dead area, though it's not too far from Kumamoto Castle, which is mostly inaccessible while repairs are going on. The hotel feels old and worn out, with low ceilings that reminded me of a hospital ward from the 60s. I booked a non-smoking room but got one that reeked of smoke. They moved me, but the replacement smelled too, and I was too tired to ask again. The bathroom was tiny even by Japanese standards, very old, and not spotlessly clean. The lobby and hallways had no AC and felt muggy. I didn't find the nice amenities I'd expect from a decent Japanese hotel, and the stay fell well short of what I expected. I wouldn't stay here again.
