Hotel Kumamoto Terrsa

It’s very close to Luffy’s statue, and the staff were kind and helpful. The room was spacious compared with other hotels in Japan.

There’s a laundromat on the 4th floor with two machines, and parking is 700 yen per night. Family Mart is about 800 meters away. The room was okay and fairly spacious for one person, though the toilet had a bad smell. I couldn’t tell if it was disinfectant or a plumbing issue.

Kumamoto Teresa Hotel is a fairly large hotel next to the Kumamoto Chuo Ward Prefectural Office. The main draw for me was how close it is to the bronze One piece Luffy statue, about a five-minute walk. You can buy a Luffy commemorative figure here too, but sales are only open from 9:00-17:00. My two-person room cost around USD 70-80 a night. It was small, though it had the basics I needed, including a sofa, bathtub, and air conditioner. There are instant noodles and beer for sale on every floor, which came in handy. I also noticed on my first visit that the doorbell sounds just like FamilyMart’s, which surprised me. The hotel is a bit far from Kumamoto city, and there’s only one FamilyMart nearby. That can make a nighttime walk outside less convenient. Still, the hotel is close to the statue.

The convention hall worked well for the professional event I attended, with about 300 people there. It looked quite professional and the sound system worked well. I didn’t deal with any staff. The room got so hot, though, that many of us were sweating soon after we came in.
