Hotel Nikko Kumamoto

It’s a convenient base right in the center of Kumamoto’s downtown, with restaurants, shops, and other places within walking distance for sightseeing or business. The hotel and rooms were clean and well kept, and the rooms felt comfortable and practical. I had no trouble during my stay. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was smooth. It’s a dependable choice for its location, cleanliness, and ease of use.

Ms.Honda at reception went well beyond what was expected to help us sort out a small parking problem, and I’m very grateful. The hotel is an easy walk from the castle, and odd-numbered rooms have a great castle view. There’s underground parking. They also let us check in before 3pm, which was much appreciated. I think we arrived around 2pm. Breakfast was quite expensive at 3,500(?) yen per person.

The rooms have lovely decor and the beds are super comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, with a Japanese option served on a different floor, and you can visit both if you like. The staff were friendly and attentive. We’re cycling around Japan, and the manager kindly stored our bicycles in a dedicated area inside the hotel, which was great since bicycle parking can be tricky. Everything was good at the Nikko.

The staff made my first visit to Japan feel so welcoming. Front desk, concierge, housekeeping and restaurant staff were all helpful, and I really appreciated them. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a nice view, and the breakfast buffet was good. Attractions and shops are close by. Dinner choices at the hotel seemed limited, perhaps because some restaurants were temporarily closed, but it was easy to find other places to eat nearby. It was a memorable stay.
