The rooms are traditional and lovely, with tatami mats, and the onsen was clean and pleasant. It’s a quiet spot surrounded by nature, and the hospitality and food were both great. Definitely try their fish meals.

The room was huge for two people, and the food tasted fresh from the first bite. I especially liked the savory egg custard (savory egg custard). The staff were polite and helpful, and did their best to assist us in English. Definitely a five-star ryokan!

This ryokan ended up being my best stay so far, even though I’d picked it as an alternative. It’s close to Kuroishi and reachable by public transport. The room was spacious and had both a bathroom and toilet. The onsen has indoor and outdoor baths and usually isn’t busy. Dinner and breakfast were great, and there’s a generous free flow of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. The staff are friendly, though their English is very limited. The onsen tax is an extra 150 yen per person and cash only. Cashless payment is available.
