6/10
The public areas are attractive and seem geared toward weddings. Staff were great, and breakfast was simple but pleasant. The Highness Hotel is right by a station on the Nishitetsu line, so keep in mind it's not the JR line you may be used to. My room was a decent size, with good amenities and a solid bathroom, but there were problems: the wallpaper was cracked and dirty, the bedding felt cheap, and the wifi dropped out often. For the price, the quality doesn't quite add up. I'd stay elsewhere if I came back to Kurume.

6/10
The staff were courteous and efficient, and being able to leave my luggage before check-in and after check-out was much appreciated. The free continental breakfast was modest, but the coffee was good and the small pastry selection was okay. My room needs refurbishment. The carpet was worn and stained in places, and the bedspreads were pretty disgusting. The bathroom was dated but clean, and the linens were clean. Climate control was inadequate: the AC only had off, lo, med, and hi settings, with no way to set a temperature. I can only imagine what it's like during heating season.

A three-star place with helpful staff and very limited breakfast options.

A perfectly nice, ordinary three-star hotel. Nothing else to add.

Comfortable and convenient, and it doesn't cost much.
