The bedroom blinds let in too much light, which was our only issue. Otherwise, the Machiya was clean and well cared for, and it felt great to have a little home for our week in Kyoto. The location was convenient, though the street next door was constantly busy with people.

The house itself is lovely to look at, mixing traditional style with modern conveniences. It made a comfortable escape from the crowds, and stepping outside early in the morning before everyone arrived was a treat. We had two lovely nights here.

Check-in near Kyoto station was simple, and the service was great. This beautiful traditional house has modern features and sits on a fantastic sightseeing street in Kyoto. It worked well for young children, with flexible bedding options.

The Machiya’s interior and bathtub made it a lovely, comfortable place for me and my family. It’s close to the pagoda and to restaurants and cafes. Finding it takes a walk, though, and the location feels a bit remote, so I’d recommend traveling light.

Every time we came back to Bonbori-an, it felt like the house was giving us a hug. We were relaxed there and slept really well. It’s a warm, cozy place with stylish decor and everything we needed for five nights. The location made our Kyoto stay even better, with historic sites and public transport an easy walk away. We’d return in a heartbeat.
