The food alone would make a trip here worthwhile. There’s the chef’s counter at SoNoMa by SingleThread, modern kappo at Yoi, and the charming Lanterne brasserie. The Capella Kyoto’s Culturists team also creates distinctive cultural experiences. Set in the historic Miyagawa-cho geisha district, the hotel is breathtaking. What makes it especially memorable, though, is the team. Their care feels personal, warm and thoughtfully tailored, as if you’re the only guest. Architecture, food and genuine human warmth come together here. Kyoto felt more alive, and this was a memory I took home, not just a hotel stay.

At Yoi, the omakase was a quiet revelation, with every course reflecting the season. Later, Lanterne changed the mood with cocktails and a candlelit intimacy that felt far away yet completely part of this place. Kengo Kuma's use of stone, water and wood makes you slow down. The staff were there when we needed them and gave us space when we didn’t, never making us feel fussed over or forgotten. We wished we could’ve stayed longer. Capella Kyoto knows how to make a hotel feel like an experience.

The chocolate cake and latte at the LANTERNE were absolutely delicious. I had such a great time there with my friend, and all the staff were friendly, kind and courteous. I was impressed by how the hotel brings Japanese cultural elements like Shimenawa into its decor. That feeling comes through across the building and makes the place warm and welcoming.

The food experiences were truly memorable, and the personalized service was out of this world. Capella Kyoto is a unique, stunning hotel in Kyoto’s beautiful Miyagawa-cho district. It’s raising the bar for ultra-luxury hotels in Asia and Japan.
