The staff were quick to respond and really helpful, and the house was spotless, charming, and beautifully kept. We spent the first two nights of our trip at Choya Chawanzaka, sleeping in a traditional Japanese home, which made for a memorable stay. It’s also an easy walk to ninnenzaka and Kiyomizu dera temple, with Gion district nearby. We’d come back and try a different Machiya next time.

Everything was well covered, from the facilities and amenities to the service, and the house itself has a great design. I’d definitely recommend it. A real five-star stay.

I’d asked ahead for a taxi at checkout, but it never showed up. The room also hadn’t been cleaned well, with lots of dust and hair left around.
