Hotel Sunroute Kyoto Kiyamachi

The best part was the location. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and Nishiki market and Tokyo Tower are within walking distance. The hotel itself was clean and well kept, but the noise made it an uncomfortable stay. We could hear people by the elevators through the thin walls, and the housekeeper’s closet was directly across from our room, so cleaning noise started as soon as staff began work. It was the least enjoyable of the four hotels we stayed in during our two weeks in Japan. The room was very tight, and the smallest of those four. My husband is a giant, which didn’t help. The free breakfast was limited to croissants, coffee, tea, water, orange juice, and yogurt from a small fridge. There was a laundry room, but with just one washer and one dryer, I used the coin laundry across the way instead. It’s clean and looked after, but I’m not sure I’d recommend staying longer than one night. 2.8⭐️

The staff were wonderful, always smiling, and the location made it easy to walk to the main attractions. We also appreciated the small free breakfast and the excellent coffee. The room was spacious for Japan. I think the three-star rating doesn’t do this nice hotel justice. Thanks for a lovely stay 😊

The service really stood out. Staff even come to the lift to see you off and bow, like you’d expect at a four- or five-star hotel. There’s a pleasant lobby where you can sit with free coffee, tea, and small treats any time of day. For the price, the room was impressive and very clean. At this kind of business hotel, the bedding can be awful, but the bed and duvet here were surprisingly good. The pillow wasn’t as nice, though still better than pillows I’ve had at similar hotels.

The rooms were clean and quiet, and the price was low compared with other places nearby. We found the staff very welcoming and friendly. With public transport and plenty of attractions close by, it’s a comfortable, affordable base in Kyoto. I’d happily stay again. 😊
