Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Hachijoguchi

The staff were nice, the room was clean, and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. The location is also very close to the central district, so I’d try the local restaurants rather than eat breakfast at the hotel. We stayed three nights, and the room was okay, much like others in the Daiwa Roynet chain all over Japan. The morning buffet didn’t measure up to the one at the hotel we stayed at in Osaka. It felt like both the quality and quantity had gone down, maybe because Kyoto is a more expensive city? They served the same dishes every morning.

My main frustration was the plugs. There was only one USB port and it didn’t work, and it was on the far side of the wall with nowhere to set a phone or device. The other plug by the bed sagged and wouldn’t hold the plug properly. Bring your own USB plug extension. Other than that, it was a good hotel. I was auto camping around Japan and chose this place because it had parking. Spaces cost ¥1,700 extra per night, first come, first served. There’s coin-operated laundry, but it doesn’t take IC cards, and there’s a change machine in the lobby. The location is right in the heart of Kyoto, about a five-minute walk from the main train station, with malls and eateries everywhere.

The buffet was good and the stay was great overall. I’d booked a non-smoking room for two for several nights, but at check-in they told me it was a smoking room. Since I’d quit smoking but used to smoke, I said that was okay. My clothes all smelled afterward, and I had to wash them after checkout.

The room was comfortable and nice, with the amenities we needed, and the buffet breakfast was good. The location was great, too. The hotel staff were lovely and welcoming. Khairul checked us in earlier than expected and was always ready to help with anything we needed, with a smile. We really appreciated his hospitality and had a lovely stay.
