The room was huge and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. The kitchen works better for snacks and leftovers than for cooking a full meal. Staff were friendly and attentive, and spoke excellent English. We especially enjoyed our daily hot chocolate, and free drinks were available in the lounge for most of the day. The hotel is down a quiet, narrow street, just a short walk from Kyoto station. A little farther in the other direction, there’s a bus stop for major sights east of Kyoto. There aren’t loads of restaurants and shops right nearby, but there’s more than enough within about a 10 minute walk.

We had a smooth arrival even though we got there early. The front desk staff were friendly, professional and well informed, and check-in was quick. We left our bags at the hotel and went for lunch. By the time the room was ready, the bags had already been brought up, which made things easy. We stayed on the fourth floor in a 30-square-metre Hollywood Twin, very spacious by Kyoto standards. The layout works well, with a separate toilet and bathroom, a proper bathtub and shower area, and a wash-up vanity. The mini kitchen had an electric stove, cookware, utensils, microwave and oven, and the refrigerator was big enough to store food for two people on a longer stay. There’s also an in-room washer-dryer with about a 4kg capacity. I found the nearby laundrette more efficient for bigger loads, but the in-room option is convenient. They supply laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid too, a thoughtful touch. The hotel is about an eight-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station. It’s tucked into a quiet alley off the main street, in an established residential neighborhood that feels calm and authentic compared with the busier tourist areas. There are plenty of eateries nearby, a FamilyMart right across the street and a laundrette a short walk away. For Osaka Itami Airport, the limousine bus stop and ticket booth are about five minutes away, just outside Top Café, which makes departures straightforward. One small suggestion: a clear sign at the start of the alley would help first-time visitors find the entrance. It’s easy enough once you know the way. This was my third visit to Kyoto. I’d stayed at two other nearby hotels on earlier trips and liked both, but this one stood out for its space, useful facilities and attention to detail, especially for a longer or more comfortable stay. Service was warm, and I’d happily return.

I had another great stay this November 2025, and even after wanting to try other hotels for the sake of the travel experience, I keep coming back to eph Kyoto. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, the location is convenient, and you get spacious rooms for a very reasonable price, plus a washer and dryer and great daily room cleaning. The cleaning staff are very polite too. I haven’t found anywhere better in the area with all of that. Some of the reception staff could improve their service attitude by Japanese standards, to be honest. But the Taiwanese lady with long hair, Lin, if I got her name right, and the Japanese gentleman with curly hair, whose name I didn’t get, were so helpful. He seemed much more experienced than the others and I remember seeing him in 2024 too, so he may be the manager. Excellent service from both of them.

We stayed here for our whole week in Keyoto and loved coming back to this quiet, tucked-away hotel after days out. It’s away from the bustle in the area, and just a short walk from the main train station, which made getting around for our adventures really convenient. The place was really nice throughout, the service was perfect and the accommodations were better than I expected. It felt like very good value.
