Genji Kyoto, a Member of Design Hotels

We loved the room's design and all the thoughtful details, and breakfast in our room each morning was lovely. The hotel has a calming feel and sits in a quiet residential area, while still being close to plenty of Kyoto. The staff made the stay, from helping arrange a birthday dinner and celebrate with me to chatting at the bar after we explored for the day. We'll definitely be back.

Genji Kyoto is my favorite hotel I've stayed at. The team, especially Yuuka, Eri, Mao, and everyone else, made us feel welcome from beginning to end and did so much to make the stay memorable. It's a small place with just 19 rooms, so it feels very boutique, and the building and room design are first class. The location is central but tucked into a quiet area. I can't recommend it enough for a special stay in Kyoto.

I spent four nights here last month and really enjoyed it. The neighborhood by the river is peaceful, and downtown is just one train stop away, though taxis can have trouble locating the tucked-away entrance. The staff were truly kind and thoughtful. Lots of small details have been considered, from hand warmers offered as I headed out in winter to a laundry room guests can use.

I checked out of Genji Kyoto today and miss the place already. The design drew me in most: it takes inspiration from The Tale of Genji, and that comes through in the furniture, materials, little details, and carefully chosen art. Everything feels calm and connected to Japanese culture. The people working there were warm, kind, and attentive throughout, the sort of hospitality that stays with you. 100% recommended!!
