GOZAN HOTEL & SERVICED APARTMENT Higashiyama Sanjo

We liked the spacious room, which was a real plus in Japan, and the staff were friendly and spoke English. There are good restaurants nearby, and the hotel is close to Gion. The laundry facilities need attention. The washer and dryer were dirty and full of lint, and the dryer didn't work properly. Our clothes had been in for over 1:30 hours and were still wet. We also struggled to charge our devices because there weren't many outlets, especially near the bed. There was little room for clothes storage, just a small dresser that was already full. One thing to know: the hotel asks guests to leave their room keys at reception, so you can't take them with you. Japan is generally very safe, so it wasn't a big deal for us, but it could matter to some people.

After long days of walking, coming back to our room with its zen garden and tatami floors was especially relaxing. We found the room stunning and peaceful, with all the amenities we needed, including a pair of lovely yukatas for everyday wear. The staff were attentive and professional, and kept everything clean and comfortable. Gozan is also well located, with the subway and convenience stores just a short walk away. I had a wonderful stay.

We chose the room with the zen garden and tatami floors, and it was such a peaceful, beautiful place to return to after a long day out walking. The room had all the amenities we could think of, plus a cute pair of yukatas to wear each day. The staff were professional and caring, and always made sure everything was clean and comfortable. Gozan is in a great spot, with a station and FamilyMart and Lawson close by. I couldn't have been happier with our stay.

The kitchen made a real difference for us. We cooked dinner during our stay and it helped the place feel like home. I’d been unsure about coming to Kyoto, especially with the Valentine’s Day weekend crowds, but winter wasn’t too busy and Gozan Hotel made the trip worthwhile. Its position gives you a nice mix of busy sights and quieter northern areas. The room itself was lovely too. The tatami and futon were comfortable, and the open garden beside the bed brought the Kyoto atmosphere right into the room. With the sky above letting in fresh air day and night, it felt calm and special. We loved staying here and would highly recommend it.
