Guesthouse Bokuyado - Hostel

The Kyoto vegan food map was super helpful, and they have coffee, tea, a hair dryer, and lots of board games. There are cafes and laundry nearby, and the place is cute and authentic with very nice staff. But it’s a real house, so there are only two showers. The shower room is small and gets very hot and humid, so I think this is comfortable for one or two nights, but not for a longer stay. The bigger issue was guests being inconsiderate. Some people didn’t seem to understand they should keep quiet, and the walls are very thin. Please don’t stay in a hot shower for ages, stomp around, or pack noisily at 5am for hours. Get your things ready before 10pm and think of other guests. That’s about people’s behavior, not the guesthouse itself.

The staff were really nice and spoke English very well. Everything was clean, and when I wanted to try one of their thousand board games one night, they explained how to play. They were so friendly, I’d definitely go back!

There’s a kitchen and a bathtub, and I really love this place ❤️ The guesthouse is really cute, and the staff member was very helpful. She speaks Chinese and English so well, and maybe other languages too. The room is very Japanese in style, but there’s quite a bit of noise from the road and from people walking on the wooden floor. Free earplugs are available, and if you can handle the noise, you can rest here.

The shared room felt welcoming and homey, with a well stocked kitchen and a small Japanese garden that was lovely to look at after a stressful day in the city. The staff were super friendly and spoke really good English. They even kept my passport safe after I forgot it on my last day. It’s a beautiful old traditional Japanese house in a quiet neighborhood, around a 15 minute walk from Kyoto station, with bus stations, supermarkets, and a public bath house nearby. I had a wonderful stay. Thank you so much!
