We had a pleasant, comfortable stay and I’d come back to this area at this price. There was plenty of space, and the mattresses on the futon beds were comfortable. It’s near Kyoto Station and a 7-11, with a small izakaya and breakfast spot nearby that felt like places locals eat. There were a few issues, though. The host wasn’t home when we arrived, and we waited outside for over half an hour before trying the door, which was unlocked. Our group got a lot of mosquito bites while waiting. Extra charges for towels and detergent were posted, but after we arrived she said those were included. Clothes we’d hung to dry were moved, and someone opened one person’s suitcase while we were out. Nothing seemed to be missing.

The house is older and has several rooms, with both Japanese and Western bathrooms. It’s a five to ten minute walk to the main station. The lady was nice, but she doesn’t speak English, so it helps to know a little Japanese.
