Hotel Anteroom Kyoto

A quiet neighborhood about 15 minutes from the central station, and the breakfast buffet was the best we had among the three hotels on our Japan trip. They serve two different kinds of toast each day. The staff were extremely kind and spoke good English. It felt like a hidden gem, and we were two couples staying for seven days. When we arrived, the other couple found that the bidet in their toilet wasn’t working and mentioned it to the hotel. After we’d been out walking the city for a few hours, the receptionist gave them a letter apologizing for the problem and moved them from their double room to a suite. The suite was much better. Thanks to miss. Moe, who handed us the letter and arranged the room change, and to the hotel for taking care of it. We’ll definitely stay here again when we return to Kyoto.

The staff were lovely, and it’s a cute, quirky hotel for a great price. It’s south of Kyoto Station in a bit of a random area, with an easy walk to the subway but not many food choices nearby. My room was basic and cozy, but the south-facing windows made it heat up quickly, and I needed help figuring out the air conditioning. Because of the size, I wouldn’t recommend the room for more than one person.

It was nice staying in a quieter, more suburban part of Japan, and the hotel had a welcoming feel. After a long day of traveling, it felt good to come back. The staff were extremely kind and helpful with questions, and breakfast was great, with something for everyone. The rooms were spacious, especially compared with the ones we had in Tokyo. Kyoto Station is around a 10-15 minute walk, which is fine unless it’s blazing hot or raining hard. They also rent bikes and umbrellas if you need them.

For an officially three-star hotel, the hospitality felt like five-star service. Breakfast was the best I’ve found in Kyoto. The room had air conditioning and a dehumidifier that helped keep the air comfortable, and the amenities were excellent. I also liked the neighborhood map they gave us, marked with nearby restaurants and sightseeing spots. It’s very convenient for both bus and subway stations. I’ll stay here again on my next Kyoto trip.
