Hotel Elite Kyoto Station

Staff were friendly, spoke English well, and helped us throughout the stay. There is a small lobby with a complimentary drink machine, plus a downstairs coin laundry with washer-dryer combos. The laundry area is tiny and has few machines, so it can get busy. Remember that the Kyoto accommodation tax is paid at check-in and isn't included in the booking total. The hotel is about a 12-15 minute walk from Kyoto Station, perhaps longer with luggage. It's otherwise handy for trains, the subway, and local buses. The place felt a little unfinished, like something was missing. Odd damp-carpet-like smells came and went in the halls and room, although the room looked clean. The air conditioner was noisy, but without it the room felt stuffy. The TVs were a nice modern feature, with YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, though our room had no do not disturb sign. Noise insulation was a major problem: we clearly heard next-door guests talking late at night as well as road noise. Given the noise and unfinished feel for the price, we probably wouldn't stay again. We'd recommend staying outside Kyoto and taking the train in during the day to explore.
