The older lady at the front was very nice, and her dog is super cute. Check-in is from 4 to 9, and checkout is by 10 am, which felt pretty early. My main complaint was how much noise carried through the place. A family of four upstairs was running and yelling at 10 pm, and you could also hear the shrine next door ringing during the day. The lady kept pushing to see more of my tattoos and asked me to move my shirt; I declined twice. The hostel I stayed at cost about the same and was more considerate. The Wi-Fi struggled, and reception was poor, so my battery kept draining while I had no connection.

The old house in the center of Gion made for an incredible stay, with a rustic, traditional feel. Don’t expect anything fancy. The lady was very friendly, her dog was really cute, and the gentleman who helped us check in was lovely too.

The location is excellent, and the place is clean, safe, and private. It’s simple, but it has adjustable air conditioning, a towel, and a toothbrush, plus a cute puppy. The lady who greeted me was smart and helpful. You’re mostly there to sleep, after all.

We stayed five nights and had a great time. It was the best place we stayed in Japan. The owner was friendly and sweet with her little dog, and the futon was very comfortable.

The common area was great, the beds were comfortable, the Wi-Fi worked well, and you can rent bikes. The location is perfect, and the owner is super nice with an adorable little dog. It’s a hostel in a 100-year-old traditional house. The walls are paper thin, and they make you leave from 11 to 4 for cleaning. I’d definitely come back.
