Kyomachiya-Suite Rikyu

The house was clean and well cared for, and the location was excellent. The host was so friendly and even made cute, detailed sightseeing notes by hand with personal recommendations. I’d definitely recommend it for a private stay in Kyoto.

Natsuki gave us room to ourselves while still being a thoughtful, gracious host. We loved the remodeled kyomachiya (kyoto townhouse), which worked perfectly for 2-4 people. It’s also close to Gion, bus routes, and the subway.

Natsuki and Tetsuo made us feel very welcome, including when they hosted us at their Sights Kyoto bar/pub and treated us so warmly. Their beautiful kyomachiya was cozy, newly renovated, and matched the photos. We stayed from 25 to 29 November 2022, and our four-person family had a wonderful five days there. Our teenage daughters slept in the snug little upstairs bedroom, and after long days of walking we loved the bath. Having a super clean, modern toilet in a separate room was handy for all four of us. The place had everything we needed. We ate out for all our meals and only brought snacks home, so we just used the tea and coffee. Natsuki was attentive, patient, helpful, and knew a lot. One heads-up for Kyoto, especially Gion: many restaurants take reservations only by phone, and it can be frustratingly hard to book once you’re in town. Make time to arrange them months ahead. Gion Higashiyama Tsujihana, an amazing little multi-course “udon” restaurant, is just steps down the street. Arigato gozaimasu Natsuke & Tetsuo. We’re already looking forward to coming back soon. The owner was really friendly and supportive, and so many places were within walking distance. It felt like a great way to experience everyday Japanese life. I recommend staying here!
