Hotel Liberte Kyoto Gojo

Getting around was easy, with public transport close by, and check-in was really simple. The staff were quick to respond and helpful. Our room was huge, clean, and everything looked new. For what you pay, it feels like an incredible deal, honestly super cheap. Best hotel we stayed at in Japan. I'd absolutely recommend it and come back when I'm in Kyoto.

This felt like a hidden gem in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood, and it works well for families with older people and children. It's a service-apartment-style hotel, nicely designed, spacious, and clean. Gojo subway station is about a five-minute walk away, one stop from Kyoto Station. Karasuma Station is around five minutes by taxi if you're heading to Osaka on the Hankyu Express.

The location was quite good, and GoiChi Pizza across the street from Bukko-ji Temple was a nice nearby treat. The temple is well worth visiting since it isn't an international tourist attraction. Our rooms were nice and fairly large, but some things felt odd: the lighting, the room entrance, and the missing bedside table in one of the two bedrooms. We couldn't figure out the unusual keypad even after following the digital directions, and another guest had to explain it. Fine if you're into pelmanism. Check-in is only through an electronic iPad, and the only contact number was Japanese, with no WhatApp or Messenger. We had to go through our daughter in Australia.

Really unpleasant smell, not authentic, and no roomwear. The building feels very cheap. Wouldn't recommend.
