HOTEL Tomiya with M's

We found HOTEL Tomiya with M’s a great base for Kyoto. After full days out, the clean, comfortable, well-kept hotel was a relaxing place to come back to. Its location near Kyoto Station is hard to beat. The station connects to JR lines, the main bus terminal, and travel around Kyoto, so getting to attractions, other cities, and day trips was easy. There’s also quick access to the underground Porta dining area, with lots of restaurants and cafes. Convenience stores and shopping centers are close by too, making it easy to pick up essentials or shop. With all that nearby and such easy transport, I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

The staff were wonderful when I lost my bag during the trip, and helped me out so much. It made the stay really memorable, and I’d recommend this place to anyone. I’ll definitely come back. It was easily the best hotel we stayed at: great location, beautiful big rooms, affordable and clean. They cleaned our room every day and left fresh water and new wash products. The beds were comfortable too.

Hot water took far too long to reach the shower and even the washroom. Room service didn’t vacuum, just changed the garbage bag and straightened the blankets. The rooms facing the station had no noise insulation at all, whether the windows were open or shut. The blinds were see-through and didn’t block the light, so even with earplugs against the outside noise, light eventually came in and woke me up. This place needs to rethink calling itself a hotel. People want a peaceful sleep, not to be woken every couple of hours. Very disappointing.

The rooms are fairly large, modern, and clean, and the hotel is a short walk from Kyoto Station. With only 12 rooms, it has a more private, boutique feel. But the digital keypad instead of a key card was cumbersome, and hot water took a while to come through. The air conditioning setup is oddly shared with the neighboring room. When they used cooling, we couldn’t use heating, and our room fell to 18°C. Street noise came through the poorly soundproofed windows as well. Service was limited: the beds weren’t made and daily items like dental kits weren’t replenished. There’s no front desk, just an automated check-in counter, which won’t suit everyone.
