The best part was being able to ask questions in Korean through the one-to-one inquiry service and get quick replies about restaurants, addresses, and popular sights. They also stored my luggage at Kyoto Station, so I could spend time without my bags before my evening flight. The place itself was a fantastic and unusual stay. It reminded me of a house from childhood animation like Crayon Shin-chan or The Crazy Family. There’s a little indoor garden, a shower booth that feels like a wet sauna, and tatami mats in every room. A refrigerator, coffee machine, and dryer were there too.

Our family had five peaceful, enjoyable days here, and I’d stay again if I return to Kyoto. The house was clean and spacious, with a lovely small garden and tatami living room. We appreciated the complimentary Nespresso coffee machine and tasty green tea. The neighborhood was quiet, with a supermarket and convenience store just a five-minute walk away, and sites like Higashi Honganji and Nishi Honganji nearby. The staff shared information about the Gion Matsuri and offered to send our bags from the accommodation to Kyoto Station, which made everything easier.

Houka has the traditional feel we wanted, along with modern equipment and everything we needed. We really enjoyed staying there and recommend it for a comfortable taste of Japanese tradition.

Everything was lovely, and I’d highly recommend it. The interior is beautiful and the stay was really comfortable. There are three rooms, two with standard beds and one with tatami. It’s the best hotel we’ve stayed in!
