ibis Styles Kyoto Station

Being next to the station was handy with large, heavy luggage, but the room felt run down and dated. It was very small, the furniture and walls had lots of marks, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. I didn’t like the pillows either. Staff could have been warmer and more welcoming.

The location right by the train station was convenient, and our stay was otherwise perfect. The night staff were incredibly lovely and sweet. The guy who checked us in on our first night was amazing and accommodating. My only complaint was the morning staff on February 13. They laughed and made comments after interactions with guests, and even as we were leaving, someone came out and started laughing. I work for Accor, and that kind of behavior is never acceptable. It made everyone uncomfortable.

The hotel is fine otherwise, with friendly staff, decent rooms, and lots of breakfast choices. But some rooms pick up traffic light signals all day, so bring earplugs. I also found it strange and unnecessary that guests can’t set their own room temperature. The hotel controls the AC centrally, and you can’t adjust it yourself.

The location is convenient, and the mattress was comfortable, but the furniture is dated and due for a refresh. As a longtime Accor member, I’d choose another nearby hotel for better value. During our November stay, I had to keep the window open because the AC was stuck in heater mode. Reception confirmed there was no way to switch it to cooling, since it’s controlled centrally. The hotel’s green housekeeping setup meant cleaning every 3-4 days, or by request with one day’s notice. Each morning, though, sheets and towels were left strewn along the walkway, making it feel like a budget motel.
