Izumiya Ryokan

The rooms were clean, and the sento was clean too, at a nice temperature. It’s a great Japanese-style place. Just be aware that sleeping on futons on the floor can make for a tougher night. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s good to know.

I’ve stayed at other ryokans, but this was the worst so far. There was hair and staining on the bed, and the bath had old stains too. Even after I asked for cleaning and fresh sheets, there was still hair and staining. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The traditional breakfast was the highlight, beautifully laid out and a treat to look at as well as eat. I also liked that the Ofuro hot bath stayed open until midnight. We chose this old, dated Japanese-style ryokan because the children wanted to try sleeping on futons. The hard floor meant we didn’t sleep well. There wasn’t even a storage cupboard, so our things ended up spread across the floor.

It’s a good traditional Japanese hotel for families or groups, and it’s fairly close to the station. Yukatas, towels, and toothbrushes were provided and cleaned every day. There’s a shared bath in the B1, while the rooms also have their own toilet and bathtub.
