There’s barely any room for a large suitcase, and the location is handy for local shops but quite a way from central Kyoto. The bathroom was the biggest problem. It had mould across the floor and walls, likely because the ventilation was so poor, and there was even more between the bath and wall since the tub didn’t sit flush. Showering meant water got everywhere. Some pillows and blankets smelled as if they hadn’t been washed. The place was okay, but not comfortable.

It’s a spacious apartment, which is great, but the age of the place made it feel a bit creepy. I was also uneasy about security: the entrance uses a PIN, and anyone who knows the property would know that code.

Booking ahead is probably best. The shaved ice is soft and fluffy, and the syrup is homemade. I could enjoy it right down to the last bite without getting tired of it.
