Kyo-no-oozora Gion Kawasemi

It’s a new, very clean inn, and the courtyard separating the living room, bedroom, and bathroom gives it a charming feel. I imagine that layout could get a little cold in winter, though. The spot is great for sightseeing, right beside Gion Shirakawa, with lots of restaurants nearby. Yasaka Shrine, Gion, and Kawaramachi are all convenient to explore from here, especially for a first trip to Kyoto. There are plenty of drinks and water, the amenities are from Marks & Web, and the washer-dryer is handy. The beds are on the firm side. One thing to keep in mind: it’s right in the tourist area. The second-floor Japanese-style room faces the street and can be noisy late at night, so that may not be the best room to sleep in. The downstairs living room and bedroom with a bed are quieter.

Even just looking at the mirrored garden makes a stay here worthwhile. It’s right in the heart of Gion, about a five-minute walk from Yasaka Shrine and close to the Chion-in bus stop, so sightseeing, shopping, and dining are all easy. The area gets busy, but the nights are surprisingly quiet and relaxing.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was excellent quality and fully equipped, and check-in went smoothly with all the features explained. Everything was clean and well cared for, with several complimentary drinks provided. We liked it a lot and recommend it.
