The large Japanese soaking tub was a welcome relief after walking 30,000 steps each day, and the beds were really comfortable. The house itself was beautifully made, with artwork, flower arrangements, snacks, a reed-lined bedroom ceiling, traditional doors by the bathroom and small garden, and lovely wood carvings in the living room. Everything was laid out with care and felt both comfortable and luxurious. There was even a washer/dryer combo. The whole team was fantastic from the moment we arrived. Shin, Shohei, and Ryuhei gave us all the information we needed to settle into Kyoto during our short stay, shared great food suggestions, helped us get reservations, and gave us a guide for seeing as many temples as possible. The host was incredibly thoughtful, and I can’t thank everyone enough for making our visit unforgettable. This place is a 15 out of 10, and I can’t recommend it enough.

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here, and we had the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. The home was lovely, the attention to detail was amazing, and the hospitality was unmatched. It really does Kyoto proud. Huge thanks to Shin and his team for giving us such wonderful memories. We’ll definitely book again when we return to Kyoto.

We’d love to come back. This beautiful old traditional house had a real soul and felt peaceful and extremely comfortable. The host and whole team were so caring, noticed every detail, and handled our requests with a really luxurious level of service. One of the best vacation stays we’ve ever had, and I’d strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic, relaxing time in Kyoto.

The open-air tub was my favorite part, and the welcome tea ceremony was lovely. We stayed one night in the West suite in early October last fall, and I only wish we’d booked longer. Shin told us about the history of the house and neighborhood and had great suggestions for food and things to do. From the moment we knocked, the service was exceptional. It’s a quick walk from Nijo station through residential streets. We’ll make sure to include this place in our next Japan trip.

If I could give the Gekkoan team more stars, I would. The place was extremely clean, and the staff even helped us get a taxi when we were leaving. We also got lovely welcome snacks. Thanks so much to Shin, Shohei, and Ako for making the stay memorable!
