The woodwork in the shower and bath was really nice, and there were loads of amenities. The clean kitchenette would work well for a longer stay. The redesigned interior feels modern while keeping traditional touches. The stairs are very steep and the rooms small. In the front bedroom, a street lamp shines right outside, and the paper screens let the light through, so curtains would help. There aren't many restaurants nearby, and transport options aren't immediately clear.
The second-floor tatami smelled nice, and our stay was comfortable. They had children's dishes, a futon dryer, and a washing machine with a single-use detergent packet. We did have a few things we'd like them to improve. We were looking forward to the cypress bath, but it had no scent, perhaps because someone had used bath salts. Though the inn had an irori, we couldn't figure out how to use it, since the kitchen's induction cooktop couldn't be moved. At check-in, a sound from the key seemed like an alarm, but no one explained what had caused it, and they just moved on to the next guest. Some amenities weren't on the list, and others were missing at check-in, which could leave guests blamed for losing them.
There are plenty of ways to spend time here with family or friends. You can cook in the living room kitchen, which has dishes, and pick up ingredients at Nishiki Market to enjoy around the hearth. The guesthouse makes it easy to experience a traditional Kyoto townhouse, with hearth rooms, a living room with a sunken hearth, bedrooms with beds, and rooms where you can lay out futons.
The staff were so friendly, and the clean inn made for a fun trip for my family and me. We stayed one night and would definitely come back.
Everything felt fresh and clean in this new place. The cleaning was thorough, the linens were spotless, and it was a comfortable stay.
