We stayed in the “Ohana” annex, a fantastic townhouse that mixes a traditional Japanese feel with the modern comforts we needed. After a tough walk up the temple mountain, the spa was especially welcome. The host was lovely too. Five big stars!

The “Oyama” room was fantastic, and I’d absolutely come back when I'm in Kyoto. It was only a few minutes from the station and grocery store, with lots of places to eat and things to do nearby. The hostess gave us some great recommendations. For about what we paid at other hotels, this was much nicer and more enjoyable. If you're considering staying in Kyoto, I'd say this is a great choice. There isn't food service, since it's more of an air b&b style place, which suited us well. There are cafes for breakfast and restaurants for other meals. In the room, we had a kitchen with a full-size fridge and all the pots, pans, and plates we needed. Water and soda were included, and alcohol was available to buy from the fridge. The traditional Japanese beds were surprisingly comfortable. The bath was one of the most relaxing bath and jacuzzi combinations I've tried, with temperature controls and enough room for me at 5' 11". We also had a washer and dryer. If you've got a big load, do smaller batches instead of filling it right up, or you'll need to run the dryer several times. The instructions were all in English, and before leaving, the hostess showed us how to use everything.
It's quiet here, especially at night since you're away from the busy area. The rates are reasonable, the service is good, and there are two supermarkets nearby. It's also close to the subway and other rail lines, so getting around is convenient. If I get the chance to return, I'd stay here again and might try a different room type.
I spent four nights here and had a lovely stay. The friendly staff made me feel welcome, and the comfortable surroundings and thoughtful service made the whole experience memorable. I'd recommend it.
I came with my mother and son and booked two rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. It was my first stay somewhere without a restaurant or room service. The building is a sturdy old house, and it was cleaner and quieter than I expected. I could relax without worrying about other people, and it was nice to try this kind of stay for a change.
