Kyomachiya Kichiatsuse Umekoji

We booked the townhouse for three and it turned out much better than we expected. It was very clean, and the multiple air conditioners kept us cool even in summer. The reception staff were lovely and gave us great recommendations for the area. The place is right by a train station, just one stop from Kyoto main station.

It’s a charming old-style Japanese place, close to the station, with a little zen garden and a traditional bathtub. I can’t personally manage sleeping on futons, but I still loved the experience. The place is well equipped with modern comforts and everything you need. We picked up food and sake and settled in for dinner. There’s a French cafe around the corner with crusty bread, open from 7 to 5, and both a 7-11 and Lawson nearby. Grab food and pajamas, then have a relaxed evening in.

The huge bath was so relaxing, and having a private garden where we could sit and ponder the stars made the stay special for my family. It’s quiet, restful, and peaceful. If you’re after a place that feels like stepping back in time but still has all the modern amenities, I highly recommend this rental. What a beautiful experience. I’d give it 10 stars if I could!

Staying in a Kyoto townhouse for the first time really soothed me, body and mind. The ceramic bath was lovely and warm. I had my futon set up upstairs, but the rooms facing the road were noisy. I’d recommend sleeping in the 4.5 tatami room up the stairs.
