<Kyoto Machiya Kouhaku>Kitanotennmanngu

The upstairs bedroom is fully private and quiet, with a stylish bed and interior, and the Japanese-style room is roomy and useful too. Downstairs, I liked the open entrance hall and the handy Japanese-style room, followed by a comfortable dining area with a nice look. The outside is lovely as well. The stairs up are a little steep, but that feels true to old Kyoto houses and brought back a nostalgic feeling for me. The house is just north of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, in a very peaceful spot. There’s a stylish shoe shop nearby, and walking around the shrine grounds is enjoyable. The Tenjin-san antique market takes place every 25th of the month, along with the Kobo-san market at Toji Temple. It’s one of Kyoto’s best-known markets and one of my favorites.
