Maana Kiyomizu

The staff were very nice, and the place has plenty of good taste and certainly knows how to market itself, but I don't think I'd return or recommend it. I expected more from the suites. Suite 1 was tiny, with no room to stretch out on the floor and no closet. The staircases in both suites our party used were very steep, and we hadn't been warned. My client in suite 3 was afraid of falling at night and slept downstairs on the sofa because there was no upstairs bathroom. The breakfast area was closed for two of our three days, so we had to find food elsewhere. When it finally opened, the gluten-free choices were very limited.

The Earthen Wall class Maana arranged was the highlight for us. We spent a couple of hours learning the traditional craft from a teacher at the Kyoto Research Institute, and the class made a warm, cozy setting to practice and meet people. That experience and the team's hospitality helped bring together curious travelers who wanted to shape their own authentic trip. We also loved the quiet side street, away from the crowds, with easy access to everything we wanted to see. Our suite was a little small, but the team had been upfront about storage and helped us with our luggage. Their recommendations were useful, and the earthen wall experience was great. Breakfast at Kissa Kishin is worth trying: delicious food and sweet, attentive service, like eating at a friend's home. We enjoyed the hospitality from the Maana team throughout our three-night stay on our first trip to Japan. Thanks for a wonderful visit.

From its quiet side street, Maana Kiyomizu is just a short walk from Kiyomizu-dera and Kyoto National Museum. The interiors were beautifully put together, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. I had an outstanding stay, would happily recommend it, and look forward to checking out the other Maana locations.

We slept better here than we usually do on a first hotel night. Both bedrooms blacked out completely, and our spacious, comfortable suite worked well for a week in Kyoto. Maana Kiyomizu is tucked away in a quiet spot, with lovely modern Japanese design. Breakfast at the café was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the shop felt carefully curated. We'd love to come back and try the classes. One useful note for families: they don't recommend the suites for children under 6, which makes sense given the design. We loved our stay.
