The highlight for us was the dinner at Tempura Marufuku. We had omakase, and the chef cooked each piece right in front of us in a light, crunchy batter. It was delicious. Afterward, we enjoyed the self-serve cocktail bar in the library, a nice quiet place to unwind among the Nintendo history books. We stayed one night to celebrate finishing the Kyoto Marathon 2026, sponsored by Nintendo this year. The hotel is gorgeous and elegant, with so much history and a beautiful view of Nintendo history. The staff were attentive, spoke English, and took us through the hotel and its amenities. I can only echo the positive reviews already here.

The welcome and hotel tour were a great start to our stay, and the staff were attentive and spoke very good English. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed, including a mini bar. It’s in a quiet part of town, with cute places to eat and drink nearby, and other areas are an easy walk or underground train ride away. If you’re considering booking, the hotel lives up to the expectations. It’s a thoughtful, beautifully done tribute to Nintendo’s history. I highly recommend it.

After long days exploring, coming back to our room was a real treat. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and I had some of my best sleep while traveling. Marufukuro also has a peaceful, tucked-away feel despite being in the city. The guest lounge is thoughtfully stocked, the amenities are top tier, and the whole property feels made for people who love design and history. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, especially Joe. They were helpful, attentive, and clearly proud of the hotel. Staying here was the highlight of our Kyoto trip. For a relaxing, high-end stay with a distinct historical character, I can’t recommend Marufukuro enough. It was worth every penny.

The location is quiet and residential, but still within walking distance of a lot. After Kyoto’s VERY busy sights, the hotel felt like the perfect retreat. We spent three nights in a junior suite, and everything about the stay stood out, from the service and architecture to the hotel’s history and all the little details. I liked that each building had its own character, and our room had an onsen bath. The bar and library being open 24/7 was especially handy for my husband’s early work calls, since he could take them without disturbing anyone. It’s a 10/10 for us. We’d return in a heartbeat and recommend it to friends looking for an intimate, unusual hotel in Kyoto.

Marufukuro was our favourite hotel in Japan, and such a peaceful, luxurious place to stay. The room was beautiful and unusually spacious for Japan, and even the bathroom felt luxurious rather than utilitarian. The lounges and library, with its self-serve bar, were a lovely touch. Staff were friendly and helpful from the minute we arrived, always available when we needed something. They also showed us around the layout and pointed out the historic details. We’ll definitely stay here again when we return to Kyoto.
