Matsui Bekkan Hanakanzashi

The neighborhood is lovely, with clothing shops, cafes and dessert places, and the markets are less than a five-minute walk down the street. Inside, the rooms were spacious and traditional, and the air conditioner worked great. Staff were welcoming and kind. You begin with a tasty tea ceremony if you like matcha-based food, then get a quick rundown of the services, traditional clothes and slippers, which were both comfortable and beautiful. I’d definitely try the onsen bath too. It was so relaxing, and neither time I went was anyone else there. 11/10, absolutely amazing!!

We were welcomed with a drink and snacks, and they even gave us a lovely souvenir as we left. The rooms are beautiful and traditional, with a Japanese breakfast. Staff treated us with real warmth and respect. We had a very pleasant stay. The location is excellent too, within walking distance of Nishiki market and the railway station.

The neighborhood was quiet and charming, and Gion District was an easy walk away. Our three nights here were fabulous. The room was spacious and immaculate, and the futon and comforters were wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. Staff were courteous and friendly in a welcoming way, without the fussiness or formality some Japanese accommodations can have. Highly recommend for a lovely Kyoto stay!

The public bath is a must try. We also had exceptional breakfast and dinner, and the atmosphere was great. The room was huge. Getting to public transport on foot may be a downside, though the front desk could always get us a taxi quickly.
