The no-hook, no-shelf situation was frustrating. We stayed five nights and had nowhere to put clothes from the suitcase or even hang a towel to dry. The stairs to the upper level also have no railing. It wasn’t a major problem, but I worried about my six-year-old son and we had to be very careful. Where we’re from, a railing is required, so I was surprised there wasn’t one. Still, the positives really do outweigh those annoyances. The place is an architectural dream, beautifully built and designed. The two bedroom areas gave us nice privacy, and the small dining table would be great for cards or hanging out if two couples rented it. There’s a kitchenette for warming food or making simple meals, plus a fridge and freezer. The nearby grocery store made it easy to get food and frozen treats. The laundry machine worked well, the bedding was heavenly with the fluffiest duvet I’ve ever used, and the air conditioning was great. It was quiet and well located, and the in-floor heating is a nice touch in cold weather. We almost cancelled after seeing a recent review claiming there was mold. I’m glad we stayed. The sinks, shower, and tub are some kind of concrete, but everything was spotless and clean, with no mold. Book it!

For the price, this apartment hotel is great value. The rooms are roomy enough, well equipped, and stocked with everything. It was super clean, the beds were comfy, and the air conditioning worked well.

Meguru house made our family’s five days in Japan lovely. The place is beautiful, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. We had no good spot to store our suitcase, though it wasn’t a huge deal. The location is excellent, just steps from a bus stop and grocery store, and a short walk to Nishiki Market. We’re coming back to Japan, and if we’re in Koyto, this will be our first choice.

We had an unpleasant stay at Meguru house. The bathroom was unhygienic, with mold stains throughout. The photos and listing had caught our attention, but when we arrived the lighting was poor and the gray, dark interior made the place feel impractical. It also made dirty surfaces hard to notice at first. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned at all: there were black mold stains in the sinks, shower, and bathtub. We found a fake eyelash left by a previous guest in the tub, a cockroach, and dust built up around the house. We’d planned to use the bathtub but didn’t, and our six-night stay was uncomfortable knowing basic cleaning hadn’t been done. We’d booked and paid several months ahead, and our plans depended on this location, so we didn’t have much we could do. We raised the issue with them. They agreed the cleaning was insufficient and apologized, but still wanted us to pay full price for an unhygienic stay. For these reasons, we don’t recommend Kyoto House, especially Meguru house.

A bit of a strange one. I got it for half price the day before my Kyoto day trip. The bath was really nice and the beds were comfy, but the place felt gray and bland, almost like being on a business holiday. If that’s your thing, you might love it.
