Modern Machiya Style Yuzen

The cozy, clean guesthouse and its two adorable cats made the place feel especially homey. Breakfast was simple and comforting. I spent five nights here during my first solo trip, surrounded by open-minded travelers from China, Korea, Japan, Turkey, and elsewhere. Papa and Mama were the heart of the experience, welcoming me like family and sharing thoughtful gestures and heartfelt conversations. Kyoto was already beautiful, but my stay here gave it a soul. I’ll treasure the experience and highly recommend it.

The room was always clean, and I liked the dorm layout, with open space in the middle and a bed that worked well for me. Mama san is full of Kyoto tips, from things to do to places to eat, so ask her anything. Solo travel can wear you out, but coming back here after a long day felt like coming home. Mama san and papa san are the best. If I get back to Kyoto, I’ll stay here again. Note: I added a deer picture because I found a friend here to go to Nara with 😉

I felt like I was staying with a Japanese family in this quiet neighborhood. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and Mama-san and Nonoka-chan took great care of me. I stayed here on my Kyoto trip and would definitely come back. Really recommend it!

It felt like being at home, with a chance to share lovely moments with the hosts and other guests. This isn’t a luxury place, so keep that in mind. We had a traditional private room overlooking a small Japanese garden, with a shared bathroom, and it matched the photos and description. The owners were the highlight: so friendly, sweet, patient, and cheerful. Mama answered our questions before and during the trip and arranged a reservation at a fish restaurant we loved. Papa also made us a lovely souvenir to remember our stay. I can’t imagine leaving an average, let alone bad, review.
